TerraCatch Sluice Box — Stone-Textured Gold Recovery System
🎥 Real Prospector. Real Creek. Real Gold.
Designer-Reported 90–97% Recovery
Designed. Tested. Put in Writing.
The TerraCatch was developed around a very different approach to gold recovery.
Instead of relying on conventional carpet, removable matting, or a handful of traditional riffles, its interior uses a stone-textured recovery surface designed to mimic some of the irregular geometry heavy material encounters in a natural streambed.
And the designer didn't stop at drawing it.
TerraCatch designer Samuel Morgan personally tested the system and reported recovery results of 90–97% under his test conditions.
That figure was provided to Hobby Miner Outlet in writing by Samuel Morgan himself.
How Samuel Tested It
During development in Germany, Samuel used lead as a heavy-material analog for his recovery testing.
Lead was a practical testing material because it was readily available to him locally, allowing him to repeatedly test the TerraCatch geometry without sacrificing gold during every development run.
He used representative particle sizes intended to challenge the sluice across material comparable in scale to:
- Flour-size gold
- Fine gold
- Flake-size gold
- Larger nugget-size material
Samuel Morgan's Reported Result:
90–97% Recovery
That is Samuel Morgan's reported result from his own development testing.
It is not an independent laboratory certification, and Hobby Miner Outlet is not representing it as one.
We are telling you exactly:
who performed the testing, what material he used, and what result he reported.
Actual recovery in a creek can vary with water velocity, sluice angle, material classification, feed rate, particle shape, sediment composition, black sand, clay content, and operator setup.
Why the TerraCatch Looks Different
The inside of the TerraCatch isn't flat.
Its recovery channel is covered with an irregular stone-inspired texture that creates repeated changes in the way water and material interact with the bottom of the sluice.
As material travels downstream, the geometry provides numerous:
- Ridges
- Depressions
- Pockets
- Flow interruptions
- Settling areas
- Changes in local water movement
Rather than asking heavy material to encounter only a few large riffles, TerraCatch gives it repeated opportunities to interact with the recovery surface throughout the channel.
Natural Riverbed-Inspired Recovery
Look at the places where gold settles naturally and you rarely find perfectly flat surfaces.
You find cracks, depressions, irregular bedrock, stones, changes in current, and protected areas where heavy material can fall out of moving water.
TerraCatch applies that idea to the recovery channel through its stone-textured geometry.
The objective is straightforward:
Create repeated opportunities for heavy material to slow, settle, and remain within the recovery system while lighter material continues downstream.
Integrated Recovery Surface
TerraCatch doesn't require a traditional carpet or removable rubber mat as its primary recovery surface.
The recovery geometry is built directly into the sluice itself.
That means the channel and the recovery surface are designed as one structure rather than as a flat box with another component added afterward.
Modular 4-Part Design
TerraCatch breaks down into four sections for easier transport and storage.
Once assembled, those sections form a compact working river sluice approximately:
- Length: 27.56"
- Width: 7.48"
- Height: 3.54"
- Construction: 4-piece modular design
- Material: PETG
Compact enough to move through the field while still providing a substantial working recovery channel.
Dual-Purpose Handles / Rock Bars
The integrated carrying handles serve a second purpose around the creek.
They can also be used as rock bars to help reposition loose stones and debris while you're setting up your working area.
Carry the sluice in.
Use the same structure during setup.
Then get to work.
Assembly Hardware Included
- 16 × M6 × 26 mm screws
- 16 × M6 nuts
- 16 × M6 washers
Assembly Instructions
Apply a thin layer of appropriate silicone sealant between connecting sections before final tightening.
The silicone helps seal small gaps at the joints and reduces the possibility of water or fine material escaping between assembled sections.
Silicone sealant is not included.
Assembly
- Align all four sections carefully.
- Apply a thin layer of silicone to the joining surfaces.
- Insert the M6 screws with washers.
- Install the nuts.
- Tighten both sides evenly.
- Remove excess silicone as needed.
- Allow the sealant to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions before use.
Why PETG?
TerraCatch is manufactured from PETG for a practical combination of:
- Impact resistance
- Low water absorption
- Rust-free construction
- Structural rigidity
- Manageable field weight
- Dimensional stability
- Durability for repeated prospecting use
PETG also allows the complex stone-textured geometry to be manufactured directly into the recovery channel.
Built for Creek and Stream Prospecting
TerraCatch is designed for prospectors looking for a compact river sluice with an unconventional integrated recovery surface.
It's well suited for:
- Fine-gold prospecting
- Creek and stream work
- Sampling
- Portable recovery setups
- Recreational prospecting
- Testing different water conditions
- Prospectors who want something different from a conventional riffle-and-mat system
Like every river sluice, setup matters.
Too little flow can allow lighter material to accumulate.
Too much flow can move material through too aggressively.
Angle and feed rate matter too.
Read the water. Tune the box. Control your feed. Watch how the material behaves.
Designer Tested. Field Proven by Prospectors.
Samuel's development testing gives TerraCatch a documented starting point.
But the real creek still gets the final word.
That's why we also value field footage and independent prospector experience.

USA Made. Maker Direct.
TerraCatch is not a catalog sluice with a different name added to it.
We manufacture it. We inspect it. We ship it directly to you.
And when we present performance information supplied by its designer, we tell you where the number came from instead of turning it into an unexplained marketing promise.
Samuel Morgan reported 90–97% recovery in his own testing.
That's his documented result.
Field conditions will determine yours.
That's what transparency looks like at Hobby Miner Outlet.
Built Different. By Design.
TerraCatch takes inspiration from something prospectors already understand:
Gold settles where water and structure give it an opportunity to settle.
Instead of creating a few isolated recovery points, the TerraCatch surface spreads irregular recovery geometry throughout the working channel.
Different surface.
Different approach.
And behind the design is a specific, attributable development result:

Not independent laboratory certification.
The designer's own testing, put in writing and attributed to the person who performed it.
