How to Catch Fine Gold: The Matting, Mini High-Bankers & Pans That Actually Keep Color

Here's the hard truth nobody selling cheap gear will tell you: most prospectors lose more fine gold than they keep. The nuggets get the glory, but the money is in the flour gold — and flour gold can escape over worn riffles, unsuitable matting, or poorly matched flow before you ever see it. Catching it comes down to the whole recovery system working together.


1. Matting creates capture zones

Miners moss and ribbed matting create lower-velocity zones that can help dense material settle out of moving water. 2. A mini high-banker moves more material

When you're ready to process more classified material, a mini high-banker can provide a powered, repeatable flow through a sluice. We build three for different use cases:

These HMO models use PETG in their printed construction. PETG was selected for useful toughness, moisture resistance, dimensional stability, and manufacturability. Actual cold and UV durability of a finished FDM part depends on filament formulation, print orientation, geometry, exposure, and use. HMO does not currently claim a certified minimum operating temperature for these products.


3. Pans and classifiers

Recovery starts and ends at the pan. Different plastics and formulations behave differently as temperatures fall, so HMO does not use a universal brittleness threshold for polypropylene or any other material. The Morgan pan line is manufactured from PETG and hand-inspected in Oregon. Its riffle geometry is an intentional part of the pan design, while real recovery still depends on technique, material size, water, and field conditions. Pairing a pan with a classifier can make material more consistent before panning or sluicing.
