How European Ergonomics Changed Gold Panning

Most gold pans are copies of copies. Somebody traced a pan that worked in 1975, a factory stamped a million of them, and the riffles got a little shallower and a little vaguer with every generation. The shape survived. The thinking behind it didn't.
We took a different starting point. Our core pans are designed by Samuel Morgan in Europe, where product design tends to begin with the physics and the hand — how water actually moves across a surface, and how a tool actually sits in your grip after three cold hours in a creek — before anyone thinks about tooling a mold.
Riffles are a water problem, not a plastic problem
A riffle's job is to create a low-pressure pocket where heavy material drops out and light material washes on. Get the angle and spacing right and gold settles exactly where you want it. Get it wrong — too steep, too shallow, too evenly spaced — and you're either losing fines over the lip or trapping black sand you'll have to re-work anyway.
Morgan's riffle geometry is tuned for that drop-out, with spacing that keeps the water turning over instead of sheeting straight across. The practical result is a pan that does more of the separation *for* you, so you spend less time chasing color around the bottom.
Ergonomics is a recovery feature, not a comfort feature
This is the part the "utilitarian" brands miss. A pan that fights your hand makes you rush, and rushing is how gold leaves the pan. The Morgan profile is shaped to be held and tilted at a natural angle for long sessions — the grip, the wall angle, and the weight balance are part of the design, not afterthoughts. Comfortable gear isn't a luxury out here; it's how you keep a steady, slow swirl on pan number forty.

Design is only half of it. Every pan in the line is manufactured and hand-inspected in Oregon from engineering-grade PETG — a material that holds its riffle edge in cold water and high-UV sun where cheap plastic goes brittle and rounds off. (More on that in PETG vs. Polypropylene.)
